![]() Unfortunately, cameras are limited by the laws of physics. Your iPhone is enabled by smaller and denser chips with more power than the large desktop computers of decades ago your iPhone screen is a higher resolution than most TVs, packed into a tiny 5 inch size, and your camera, too, is only a fraction of the size of a digital camera from years past. Technology always strives for miniaturization. You’ll notice that while technologies come and go, and even the medium changes (this camera, while externally similar, moved from 35mm film to digital), the camera stayed a similar shape, and most importantly, size. Why? Physics.Ĭonsider this series showing the evolution of Canon’s cameras over more than half a century: ![]() This image, which is a ‘raw’ capture, is much noisier than what you’d get from a dedicated, full-size camera. This noisy shot didn’t come from an iPhone 5- this is from an iPhone 13 Pro. Some bits of processing are creative, like adding contrast to make things “pop,” while other decisions are to compensate for the weaknesses of the hardware, like noise.Ĭonsider this underprocessed iPhone photo: For example, some of the colors your camera sees can’t be represented on your screen, so it needs to find something close. The zero’s and one’s that your sensor sees would mean nothing to the human eye. When you take a photo on a modern iPhone - or any smartphone for that matter - you might like to think that what you saw was what you captured, but nothing could be further from the truth. Looking at the raw data, I’ve concluded that while Apple has taken more than one leap forward in hardware, they’re in a tricky position in software. I take photos in both Apple’s app and our own - and that lets me do something that Apple’s can’t: take native RAW photos. These shots let me poke and prod at the unprocessed photo that comes straight out of the hardware. An average iPhone user snaps a picture in Apple’s Camera app, and… I work on my own camera app. ![]() Most smartphone reviews and technology websites list the new iPhone 13 Pro’s camera system as being up there with the best on the market right now.īut I must admit I don’t take photos like most people. “Quirk”? This might be a bit of a startling thing to read, coming from many reviews. I had to research a particular set of quirks. This year’s deep dive into Apple’s latest and greatest - the iPhone 13 Pro - took extra time. In the age of smart cameras, there are more quirks than ever. This takes weeks (or this year, months) after initial reviews, because I believe in taking time to understand all the quirks and features. Where other reviews might come out immediately and offer a quick impression, we spend a lot of time testing it before coming to our verdict. As the makers of a camera app, we tend to take a longer look at these upgrades. Apple releases new iPhones, and they’re certain to upgrade the cameras.

![]() The starship Stinger Mantis serves as the small hub area where the player can talk to non-playable characters, and is used to travel between planets. It features five major explorable planets that players can return to regularly Bogano, Zeffo, Kashyyyk, Dathomir and Ilum. The game adopts the " Metroidvania" style of exploration and progression. The droid helps the player access chests and terminals, as well as healing them using Stim Canisters. Throughout the game, the player is accompanied by a droid named BD-1. Some of the bosses are part of the main story, while others are optional. The game's bosses include Inquisitors, bounty hunters, larger wild beasts, and large vehicles such as AT-STs. Enemy types include wild beasts native to certain planets, as well as stormtroopers, droids, and Jedi-hunting Purge Troopers. As players progress in the game, they gain skill points which can be used to upgrade their combat skills, which are divided into three major categories: Survival, Lightsaber, and Force. The usage of these Force powers is governed by the Force meter, which will replenish only when the player damages an enemy using regular attacks. The player begins the game with a "force slow" ability that slows down enemies, and slowly earns more force powers such as wall-run, double-jump, force-push, and force-pull, allowing them to reach previously inaccessible areas. The player has access to several Force powers, which are used in both combat and puzzle scenarios. The player has one lightsaber at the beginning of the game, and they can earn the ability to dual-wield a double-bladed lightsaber later in the game. The player can either sidestep, dodge, or interrupt the attack by using Force abilities. Some enemies will glow red when they attempt to launch an unblockable attack. If the player blocks just before an attack, this will parry the attack or deflect a projectile, causing their opponent's block meter to fall more quickly, opening them up for attack. Blocking an attack depletes a character's block meter, opening them up to attack when the meter hits zero. The player can use their lightsaber to strike at enemies, or block incoming attacks. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure video game played from a third-person perspective. Gameplay In this screenshot, Cal Kestis, the game's protagonist, fights two AT-STs with his lightsaber. A sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, was released in April 2023. It was nominated for several end-of-the-year accolades, including Best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards 2020. The game received generally favorable reviews from critics, who praised the game's combat, characters, performance, and world design, though it received criticisms for the technical issues and lack of polish at release. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in November 2019, and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in June 2021. The music, composed by Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Bach Choir of London. Ben Burtt provided the voice for Cal's companion droid BD-1, while Forest Whitaker reprised his role from Rogue One as Saw Gerrera. The game's voice cast includes Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis and Debra Wilson as his mentor Cere. The game's visuals were influenced by Rogue One and Star Wars Rebels, while the combat and levels were inspired by Metroid Prime, Dark Souls, and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. The game began development as an original title unrelated to Star Wars, but Electronic Arts felt the action would work well as a Star Wars game, convincing Lucasfilm to authorize and consult on the project. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was directed by Stig Asmussen, who joined Respawn in 2014. The game adopts a Metroidvania style of level design where new areas are accessed as Cal unlocks skills and abilities. The player can use Kestis' lightsaber and Force powers to defeat enemies, including stormtroopers, wild beasts and bounty hunters. It follows Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, who becomes a target of the Galactic Empire and is hunted throughout the galaxy by the Imperial Inquisitors while attempting to complete his training, reconcile with his troubled past, and rebuild the fallen Jedi Order. The story is set in the Star Wars universe, five years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a 2019 action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. We’ve spent the last 2 nights at Lilly Residence and still have one night to stay, and our experience has been wonderful. We went from Paros to Santorini where we stayed at The Grace Hotel for more than twice the price and, though Santorini is stunning, my husband and I both agree emphatically that we enjoyed our stay at Lilly Residence more. We usually stay at five star hotels and the small world charm and attention here outdid our larger more expensive stays. The salmon canapes, Banoffi and chocolate croissants were to die for! Overall, we were really impressed by this small hotel. There were new dishes every day for the entire 8 days we were there. The breakfast was wonderful with a wide array of classic foods and freshly baked and prepared goodies of all kinds every day. Their warm attitude and attentiveness made for a different level of relaxation. The bartender, Yanis, makes divine drinks and the morning breakfast wait staff cater to whatever you want, remembering how you like your coffee, etc. We thought that the rest of the staff was similarly outstanding, always smiling and helpful but not intrusive. Traveling outside the US, we felt it was a huge value for us to essentially have a gracious and knowledgeable concierge at our beck and call for 8 days who spoke a number of languages and was genuinely invested in our having a great time. He was even able to get us into places we thought were full. We learned early on that if he made dinner reservations for us then we would be sat at the nicest tables which was a big perk in a busy season. He knows everyone on the island so whatever we asked he would just instantly pick up his cell phone and call his contacts to inquire or arrange what we wanted. He is not intrusive but ever present on the grounds to make suggestions for activities or restaurants or transportation or whatever is needed. He knows (or seems to know) all the guests names and goes out of his way to check in with them to ensure that they are having the best experience possible and want for nothing. Christos, the manager, runs the hotel with a gracious warmth and charm that makes the guests feel both at home and empowered to be able to enjoy the surrounding activities as they wish. In fact the most valuable amenity we experienced there that made our stay so wonderful was the staff which we simply cant say enough about. The hotel has a warm and intimate boutique-like feel to it akin to the Small Luxury Hotels of the World chain with immense attention to detail and guest satisfaction. The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect- on a picturesque Grecian street shielded from noise (on which it's easy to park) but literally across the street from a beautiful quiet beach and a 5 minute walk (at most) to downtown Naousa where there are endless shopping and dining opportunities. The view from our room and terrace was amazing and the perfect backdrop for a romantic get away. ![]() The rooms and hotel common spaces are immaculate with beautiful amenities. My husband and I stayed at Lilly Residence (Honeymoon Suite) for 7 nights and could not have been more thrilled with our choice. |
